Delayed Coking Process
Work through delayed coking chemistry and the drum cycle from filling and steam stripping to cutting and warm-up. Participants learn to run the coker heater within its coking limits, apply the safety controls for hot drum work, and troubleshoot foam-over, hot spots and fractionator fouling.
- Understand delayed coking chemistry and the effect of feed quality on coke and liquid yield.
- Follow the drum cycle: filling, steam stripping, cooling, cutting and warm-up.
- Operate the coker heater within its coking and run length limits.
- Apply the safety controls for hot drum work, water quenching and coke cutting.
- Troubleshoot foam-over, drum hot spots and fractionator fouling.
